The short answer
Phuket has a small cluster of about four English-speaking residential rehabs, with published prices from about US$5,000 to US$25,700 for 28–30 days.
Before you book, confirm in writing who manages detox and which hospital the center uses, and plan around two island risks: easy access to nightlife and a dangerous sea during the May to October monsoon.
- About 4 English-speaking centers
- US$5,000–25,700 per 28–30 days
- Airport: Phuket (HKT)
What does rehab in Phuket look like?
Phuket has about 4 English-speaking residential centers, out of an estimated 25–30 in Thailand.[1]
That makes it the second-largest cluster after Chiang Mai, which has about nine. With so few centers, you are comparing a handful of programs rather than choosing from a long list.[1]
The programs we reviewed mainly treat alcohol and drug problems, and some also list prescription-drug dependence, trauma, anxiety or co-occurring mental health conditions. Program lengths are usually quoted as 28 days, two months or 12 weeks.[1]
The setting is the main draw: an island with an international airport, warm weather and space away from home. It is also a busy holiday destination, which matters for some people in early recovery (see island risks).
How much does rehab in Phuket cost?
The prices we found for Phuket centers ran from about US$5,000 to US$25,700 per 28–30 days.[1]
That spans almost the whole Thai range of about US$4,300 to US$25,700, where the average is about US$12,000.[1] Because there are so few centers, one center's price change can move the local range a lot.
| What we found | Published price | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest listed price | US$5,000–8,900 per 28 days | A directory estimate, not the center's own quote. Ask for a written price. |
| Mid-range price list | About US$10,000 per 28 days, plus 7% tax | Whether tax, detox and medication are extra. |
| Highest listed price | US$25,700 per month | A directory listed the same center at a lower price; ask which is current. |

Who manages detox, and which hospital backs it up?
Withdrawal can be the riskiest part of early treatment. The NHS warns that stopping drinking suddenly can be dangerous if you are dependent on alcohol, and severe withdrawal can cause seizures and confusion.[8] Stopping benzodiazepines suddenly can also be dangerous, so a doctor should plan any reduction.
Centers describe their medical cover differently: at least one in Phuket calls itself medically based, while others say less about it. Ask each one, in writing, which doctor is responsible for your detox and who is on duty overnight.
The UK government notes that many private hospitals in Thailand offer mental health and drug rehabilitation treatment to international patients, usually at a higher price.[6] All hospitals require a guarantee of payment before treating patients, so check your insurance covers a hospital transfer.[7]
What public services are there in Phuket?
Thailand's public drug treatment is led by a national institute near Bangkok and six regional Thanyarak hospitals run by the Department of Medical Services.[2][14] None of the regional hospitals is in Phuket. The nearest we could confirm is Thanyarak Songkhla Hospital, in Songkhla province on the other side of the peninsula.[3]
On the island, the main public hospital is Vachira Phuket Hospital, an accredited Ministry of Public Health hospital in Phuket Town.[4] The Ministry has announced that every large public hospital will open psychiatry and drug wards for inpatients.[5] We could not confirm what addiction services Vachira Phuket offers, or whether it treats foreign patients for addiction, so ask the hospital directly.
In practice, the public system is designed mainly for Thai citizens and works in Thai. Most international clients in Phuket use private centers and private hospitals.
What island risks should you plan for?
Phuket is one of Thailand's busiest holiday islands, and some areas are built around bars and nightlife. That doesn't rule it out, but it changes the questions you should ask.
- Outings and free time. Ask how far the center is from nightlife areas, whether clients go on outings to beaches or town, and who goes with them.
- The sea in monsoon season. The southwest monsoon affects the west coast from roughly May to October. A red flag on the beach means do not swim.[10] Phuket's Tourist Police renewed their warnings in June 2025 after three tourists drowned in two days.[11]
- Unregulated alcohol. Australia's government warns that drinks in Thailand can be spiked and that cheap or homemade alcohol can contain methanol, which can kill.[12] This matters most for anyone who leaves treatment early or relapses on the island.
- Leaving early. Ask what happens if you or your family member wants to leave: who arranges a safe place to stay or a flight home, and what refund applies.
Flights, visas and medication
- Flights. Phuket International Airport (HKT) is in the north of the island. Some international flights land there directly; many travellers connect through Bangkok or another regional hub. Ask whether the center collects you and what happens if your flight is delayed.
- Visas. Since 15 September 2026, Australian, UK, US and Canadian passport holders can enter visa-free for up to 30 days, for tourism only.[13] Longer programs need a visa, and the rules change. Our visa guide explains the options (checked on 11 October 2026).
- Medication. Some medicines, including ADHD stimulants, benzodiazepines and opioid painkillers, are controlled in Thailand. Read our guide to bringing medication to Thailand and talk to your doctor before you travel.
What should you ask a Phuket center?
Ask for written answers before you pay a deposit or book flights. Our longer list of 15 questions to ask goes into more detail.
- Is it a licensed medical facility? Ask for its licence number and legal name, then check it on the Ministry of Public Health's online register.[9] If it treats drug addiction, ask for proof it is allowed to; our safety guide explains how.
- Who runs detox? The doctor responsible, whether nurses are on duty overnight, and when a hospital transfer happens.
- Which hospital does it use? Its name, how far away it is, and who pays the hospital's guarantee of payment.
- How much therapy is included? One-to-one sessions each week, group sizes, and the qualifications of the people running them.
- What are the rules on outings and the beach? Especially during the monsoon months.
- What is the full price? Including tax, medication, detox and airport pickup, plus the deposit and the refund policy if you leave early.
- What happens when you go home? Online sessions, referrals to services in your own country, and who your family can contact.

Frequently asked questions
How many rehabs are there in Phuket?
We count about four English-speaking residential centers in Phuket, out of an estimated 25–30 in Thailand. That makes it the second-largest cluster after Chiang Mai, but the choice is much smaller, so compare carefully rather than picking from a long list.
How much does rehab in Phuket cost?
The prices we found for Phuket centers ran from about US$5,000 to US$25,700 per 28–30 days (as published by centers or listed in directories, September to October 2026). Some add 7% VAT, medication or detox on top. See our cost guide for how Thai prices compare with home.
Is Phuket a good place for rehab if I'm worried about nightlife?
It can work, but ask each center how far it is from nightlife areas, whether clients leave the site on outings, and how those outings are supervised. If being near bars and beach parties is a known trigger, a quieter location may suit you better.
Can a foreigner get drug or alcohol treatment at a public hospital in Phuket?
Public hospitals treat foreigners in an emergency, but the public drug-treatment system is designed mainly for Thai citizens and works in Thai. We could not confirm what addiction services Vachira Phuket Hospital offers to international patients, so ask the hospital directly.
Is it safe to swim in Phuket during treatment?
Treat the sea with care. From roughly May to October the west coast is hit by the southwest monsoon, and a red flag on the beach means do not swim. Tourists drown every season after ignoring the flags, so ask the center what its beach rules are.
